Komplot is happy to be back from its summer break and presents: 𝑠̶𝑢̶𝑗̶𝑒̶𝑡̶ , a solo exhibition by The LetterS̷ pace Department.

Rather than presenting a singular authorial position, at Komplot The LetterS̷ pace Department operates as guest and host at once, re-membering the works of close friends and kindred spirits in order to compose its first solo exhibition as one body of work.At the start of 𝑠̶𝑢̶𝑗̶𝑒̶𝑡̶ lies the discovery of foundling tokens preserved in the archives of the CPAS/OCMW of Brussels. Left with infants placed in foundling drawers between the eighteenth and early twentieth centuries, cards, devotional prints and pieces of cloth were often divided in two. One half remained with the child, the other with the parent, each irregular edge preserving the possibility of a future reunion.
Subjectivity emerges in this space: not as a unified whole, but as something split, addressed and assembled through relations, voices and acts of enunciation. 𝑠̶𝑢̶𝑗̶𝑒̶𝑡̶ takes this split and the bar as a working principle, to make visible what the division puts into relation. A word transforms into an image when barred and a line becomes a signature once it’s crossed out by another.
Founded in 2022, The LetterS̷ pace Department (TLSD) is an artistic entity working across a variety of spaces, with language as a matter of failure and a particular interest in the interstices, lapses and ellipses. It develops minor models of resistance through parasitic strategies and by exploring the conditions and environments in which it operates. For 𝑠̶𝑢̶𝑗̶𝑒̶𝑡̶, these strategies take the form of an exhibition, a publication and a public programme.

Plutôt que de présenter une position d’auteur singulière, The LetterS pace Department agit à la fois comme invité et comme hôte à Komplot, réunissant les œuvres d’ami·es proches et de personnes avec lesquelles il partage des affinités, afin de composer sa première exposition personnelle en un seul corps d’œuvre.
À l’origine de 𝑠̶𝑢̶𝑗̶𝑒̶𝑡̶ se trouve la découverte de signes de reconnaissance conservés dans les archives du CPAS/OCMW de Bruxelles. Laissés auprès des nourrissons déposés dans les tours d’abandon entre le XVIIIe et le début du XXe siècle, des cartes, des images pieuses et des morceaux de tissu étaient souvent divisés en deux. Une moitié restait avec l’enfant, l’autre avec le parent, chaque bord irrégulier préservant la possibilité d’une future réunion.
La subjectivité émerge dans cet espace : non pas comme un tout unifié, mais comme quelque chose de divisé, adressé et assemblé à travers des relations, des voix et des actes d’énonciation. 𝑠̶𝑢̶𝑗̶𝑒̶𝑡̶ fait de cette division et de la barre un principe de travail, afin de rendre visible ce que la séparation met en relation. Un mot se transforme en image lorsqu’il est barré, et une ligne devient une signature lorsqu’elle est traversée par une autre.
Fondé en 2022, The LetterS pace Department (TLSD) est une entité artistique qui travaille à travers une variété d’espaces, avec le langage comme matière de l’échec et un intérêt particulier pour les interstices, les lapsus et les ellipses. Il développe des modèles mineurs de résistance à travers des stratégies parasitaires et en explorant les conditions et les environnements dans lesquels il opère. Pour 𝑠̶𝑢̶𝑗̶𝑒̶𝑡̶, ces stratégies prennent la forme d’une exposition, d’une publication et d’un programme public.

In plaats van één enkele auteurspositie te presenteren, treedt The LetterS pace Department bij Komplot tegelijk op als gast en gastheer. Het re-membering van werk van goede vrienden en verwante geesten om zo zijn eerste solotentoonstelling als één geheel samen te stellen.
Aan de basis van 𝑠̶𝑢̶𝑗̶𝑒̶𝑡̶ ligt de ontdekking van vondelingentekens die bewaard worden in de archieven van het OCMW/CPAS van Brussel. Deze kaarten, devotieprentjes en stukken stof werden achtergelaten bij kinderen die tussen de achttiende en het begin van de twintigste eeuw in vondelingenschuiven werden geplaatst en vaak in tweeën werden gedeeld. De ene helft bleef bij het kind, de andere bij de ouder, waarbij elke onregelmatige rand de mogelijkheid van een toekomstige hereniging behield.
Subjectiviteit ontstaat in deze ruimte: niet als een eenduidig geheel, maar als iets dat wordt gesplitst, aangesproken en samengesteld door relaties, stemmen en handelingen van enunciatie. 𝑠̶𝑢̶𝑗̶𝑒̶𝑡̶ neemt deze splitsing en de doorhaling als werkprincipe, om zichtbaar te maken wat door de scheiding met elkaar in relatie wordt gebracht. Een woord verandert in een beeld wanneer het wordt doorgestreept, en een lijn wordt een handtekening zodra een andere lijn haar doorkruist.
The LetterS pace Department (TLSD), opgericht in 2022, is een artistieke entiteit die in uiteenlopende ruimtes werkt, met taal als een kwestie van falen en met een bijzondere interesse in tussenruimtes, haperingen en ellipsen. Het ontwikkelt kleine modellen van verzet via parasitaire strategieën en door de omstandigheden en omgevingen waarin het opereert te onderzoeken. Voor 𝑠̶𝑢̶𝑗̶𝑒̶𝑡̶ nemen deze strategieën de vorm aan van een tentoonstelling, een publicatie en een publiek programma.
