Komplot warmly invites you to the opening of Yoel Pytowski’s solo exhibition Dormant Body on Friday, February 7th from 18:00 onwards. This exhibition follows his voluminous site-specific installation The Porous Lodge at Kunsthal Extra City in Antwerp in the fall of 2024, where he radically transformed 2,500 cubic meters.Ten weeks after the end of the exhibition at Kunsthal Extra City, Dormant Body at Komplot offers Pytowski the opportunity to fulfill a long-held aspiration: to capture his practice in a moment of rest. Here, the materials from The Porous Lodge enter a state of hibernation—a quiet latency, suspended between past labor and future mutations. For Pytowski, this marks the first time showcasing the materials he has been continuously reusing for over a decade in their halted state.Pytowski invites us to consider the tension between the utilitarian function of these materials and their potential as sculptural forms. What might initially appear as an inventory—a mimicry of an artist’s stockroom in his studio—becomes a statement on continuity, care and sustainability. These materials are not just physical objects; they are vessels of memory, holding the traces of Pytowski’s past installations while remaining poised for future transformation. This project is made possible with the generous support of CultuurCulture, an initiative of the Ministry of Culture of the Flemish Community and the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. The Porous Lodge, initiated by Zuzanna Rachowska, is a joint project between Kunsthal Extra City in Antwerp and KOMPLOT in Brussels to present the work of Yoel Pytowski. The collaboration between the two cultural organisations is based on sharing knowledge, resources and joint organisation, with the aim of promoting the sustainability of this collaboration and bridging the two lingual communities.
