Since 2022, Art Anderlecht has invited audiences to discover the municipality from a different perspective, through its studios, independent spaces and artistic initiatives. On foot or by bike, the parcours traces a human-scale map of an ecosystem shaped by places, encounters, friendships and collaborations.
Alongside Brussels’ art week, Art Anderlecht offers a step aside, another way of moving through the city, looking and meeting. Openings, workshops, guided tours and evening events punctuate the parcours, offering opportunities to discover what is being created here.
For this new edition, we have chosen to look at what lies between places, between projects, between what is shown and what makes it possible for them to exist. The connections that are woven, the resources we share, the spaces we open up, and the collaborations that bring projects to life. Because an art scene is built not only through its exhibitions, but also through everything that comes before, accompanies and extends them.
This attention to connections runs throughout this year’s programme, where artistic practices, stories, knowledge and resources meet and circulate, from collective making to explorations of the territory.
These projects do not tell a single story, but reveal a shared intuition, what matters is not always where we are looking. Some practices are fleeting, some spaces exist only for the duration of an event, some stories remain buried, and some connections only become visible when they are activated.
This is where we locate the commons, in the gestures that sustain a community: welcoming, collaborating, caring. Connections that can sometimes be discreet or precarious, but are essential to artistic life. And if the commons help us hold things together, they also give us reasons to celebrate. The party, the opening, the encounter or the evening gathering are all integral to this collective life: they create connections, produce memories and make us want to remain together.
Our role as curators and facilitators is to accompany these circulations, connect the stories and make visible the relationships that run through these places. Art Anderlecht thus becomes more than an exhibition parcours: it is a journey through a territory and its many stories, its visible and invisible spaces, its established and fleeting uses. We invite you to discover what is being made in Anderlecht, to get a little lost along its less-travelled paths, and above all, to celebrate those who, together, make it possible.

Big Appple closes Guess Mine Is Not The First Heart Broken, an exhibition by Athen Kardashian and Nina Mhach Durban. Borrowing its title from a scene in Grease (1978), the exhibition reimagines elements of the film through sculptures, objects and popular archives, exploring memory, teenage culture and the emotional narratives embedded in everyday materials.

Gilbard opens Gilbard.e.s & friends by Gilbard.e.s and friends, a collective “no-show” bringing together friends and collaborators around questions of material reuse, ecology, alternative economies and collective making. Through art, design, craft and architecture, the project explores new forms of exchange, production and togetherness.

Janitor presents a duo show by Lukas De Ryck and Matthias Odin. De Ryck’s drawings emerge through observation, translation and projection, while Odin explores similar questions through the physical encounter between body, objects and space. Moving between two and three dimensions, their works shift familiar forms and perspectives, inviting a more physical and intuitive way of looking.

Following the visits, BARN is planning a Brussels Artist-Run Hangout at Komplot: an informal gathering to continue the conversations, meet other members of the scene and get to know the BARN Core Team.
