We are thrilled to welcome you to the presentation of the zine City, Forest, Swamp, which brings together the results of the Plotting the archive research residency conducted by Valentina Bianchi on the archive of Komplot. The publication includes a subjective timeline of Komplot—its strategies, relations, and projects—attempting to organize them while also speculating on possible futures. It also gathers material produced during a collective workshop in which the archive was explored and activated.

The evening will also feature a screening of Sad in Country(Part One) (2007), an experimental film by Catherine Vertige, Kosten Koper, with Sonia Dermience. The film includes interviews with Belgian artists involved in collective projects that engage with politics in different ways. Produced by Komplot and rarely screened, it offers a significant perspective on the context in which these practices emerged.

Nous sommes ravis de vous accueillir pour la présentation du fanzine City, Forest, Swamp, qui réunit les résultats de la résidence de recherche Plotting the Archive, menée par Valentina Bianchi autour des archives de Komplot. La publication propose une chronologie subjective de Komplot — ses stratégies, ses relations et ses projets — cherchant à les organiser tout en spéculant sur des futurs possibles. Elle rassemble également des matériaux produits lors d’un atelier collectif au cours duquel les archives ont été explorées et activées.

La soirée se poursuivra avec la projection de Sad in Country (Part One) (2007), un film expérimental de Catherine Vertige et Kosten Koper, avec Sonia Dermience. Le film comprend des entretiens avec des artistes belges impliqués dans des projets collectifs engageant la politique de différentes manières. Produit par Komplot et rarement projeté, il offre un éclairage précieux sur le contexte dans lequel ces pratiques ont émergé.

We zijn verheugd u te verwelkomen op de presentatie van de zine City, Forest, Swamp, die de resultaten samenbrengt van de onderzoeksresidentie Plotting the Archive, uitgevoerd door Valentina Bianchi rond het archief van Komplot. De publicatie bevat een subjectieve tijdlijn van Komplot — zijn strategieën, relaties en projecten — waarin wordt geprobeerd deze te ordenen en tegelijk te speculeren over mogelijke toekomsten. Daarnaast verzamelt de zine materiaal dat werd geproduceerd tijdens een collectieve workshop waarin het archief werd verkend en geactiveerd.

De avond omvat ook een vertoning van Sad in Country (Part One) (2007), een experimentele film van Catherine Vertige en Kosten Koper, met Sonia Dermience. De film bevat interviews met Belgische kunstenaars die betrokken zijn bij collectieve projecten die zich op verschillende manieren tot politiek verhouden. De film werd geproduceerd door Komplot en wordt zelden vertoond; hij biedt een waardevol perspectief op de context waarin deze praktijken zijn ontstaan.

During the residency: the workshop 𝘼 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙧𝙤𝙤𝙢, 𝙘𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙞𝙧𝙨: 𝙖 𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙡𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙆𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙤𝙩’𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙫𝙚, Valentina guiding us through Komplot’s archive, digging, selecting, writing, drawing, and reshaping timelines. 
During the workshop, we delved into the archive and unearthed a series of precious relics. We then organised them in arbitrary and speculative ecosystems, placing them in swamps, cities, or forests. We then traced a palimpsest of stories in a shared mural, and ended with an email storm from the future.

Pendant la résidence: le workshop 𝘼 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙧𝙤𝙤𝙢, 𝙘𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙞𝙧𝙨 : 𝙪𝙣𝙚 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙡𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙙𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙨 𝙙𝙚 𝙆𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙤𝙩, Valentina nous a guidé·es à travers les archives de Komplot, en fouillant, sélectionnant, écrivant, dessinant et recomposant des lignes temporelles.

Au cours de l’atelier, nous avons plongé dans les archives et mis au jour une série de reliques précieuses. Nous les avons ensuite organisées en écosystèmes arbitraires et spéculatifs, les plaçant dans des marais, des villes ou des forêts. Nous avons alors tracé un palimpseste d’histoires au sein d’une fresque collective, pour conclure par une tempête d’e-mails venus du futur.

Tijdens de residentie vond de workshop 𝘼 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙧𝙤𝙤𝙢, 𝙘𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙞𝙧𝙨 : een collectieve verkenning van het archief van Komplot plaats, waarin Valentina ons begeleidde door het archief van Komplot — gravend, selecterend, schrijvend, tekenend en tijdlijnen hercomposerend.

Tijdens de workshop doken we diep in het archief en brachten we een reeks kostbare relicten aan het licht. Vervolgens organiseerden we deze in arbitraire en speculatieve ecosystemen, door ze te plaatsen in moerassen, steden of bossen. Daarna tekenden we een palimpsest van verhalen in een gedeelde muurschildering, en sloten af met een e-mailstorm uit de toekomst.
